What is Audiology?

"HOW IMPORTANT IS YOUR HEARING?"
Audiology is the evaluation and non-medical treatment of hearing and balance disorders. In Wisconsin, an Audiologist is a licensed hearing care professional who specializes in prevention, identification and assessment of hearing and related disorders and provides treatment, rehab services and assistive devices.
Who can benefit from Premier Hearing Solutions Audiology Services?
- Anyone with concerns regarding their ability to hear or communication difficulties.
- Anyone requiring a hearing aid or with a hearing aid that needs serviced.
- Children who are referred from a hospital newborn screening program.
- Children with questionable processing difficulties in the classroom.
- Individuals with Tinnitus (sounds in the ears).
- Those who may be experiencing vertigo or dizziness.
How will I be evaluated?
An evaluation at Premier Hearing Solutions may include the following:
Otoscopic Evaluation: Looking in the earcanal with an otoscope to determine if there is cerumen (wax), drainage, and/or foreign bodies in the ear canal.
Tympanometry: This test is used to determine middle ear function. A small, soft rubber tip is placed in the ear for approximately 5 seconds per ear and you will feel a small change in pressure. Results can indicate normal middle ear function, possible presence of fluid/infection, and/or eardrum perforations.
Basic Audiometric Evaluation: You will be asked to indicate when you hear soft beeping sounds and then repeat words. This will give us your hearing thresholds (the softest levels you can hear) for speech and across the frequency range of 250-8000Hz.
